I used to post some art on my personal Instagram. But I hate Instagram, the speed, the FoMO… There are too many people on Instagram. And I needed a break. Because my art is too complex, it’s paintings and drawings, sketches, doodles, funny GIFs and flash animations. Poetry too. Too weeks ago I removed almost everything but I put it back. And I still have more to publish.
One day, I photographed a book cover by James Bidgood, a beautiful blue picture of the beautiful Bobby Kendall and I had never gotten so many likes before. It was ridiculous. It was just a photograph of a book cover.
Now I only post things I’ve created myself. It’s not the same as Instagram. It’s still a social network. But it’s so much more. I’ve been using it for 16 years and I feel at home there. And I don’t want to change my username because it’s part of who I am.
PS: I did change my username because my life has changed. I finally use my real name. Anna Apollonia, the goddess of music, poetry and the sun. Mistress of the Muses. Oracle of chaos.

Your art is not about how many people
Rupi Kaur
like your work
your art
is about
if your heart likes your work
if your soul likes your work
it’s about how honest
you are with yourself
and you
must never
trade honesty
for relatability.
